Vicki Bennett, working alongside Des Crump, Indigenous Languages Coordinator, Queensland Memory, shaped this narrative from Des’s story of his Great Uncle Charlie. Charlie Bird and George Bennett’s rare welcome home ceremony at Euraba Aboriginal settlement after the war inspired the tale. Vicki curated Charlie’s experiences, collaborating with Des, Charlie’s family, and incorporating their insights into the book “Charlie’s War.” A heartfelt account born from shared conversations and generous support.
